How Mounjaro should be delivered in the UK

Ask about delivery before payment

Confirm which registered pharmacy will dispense the prescription, how it can be contacted and what happens if the courier is delayed. Ask whether your address is covered, when dispatch normally occurs and whether the expected delivery date leaves you available to receive the parcel. The quoted transit time should not be mistaken for evidence about every possible delay.

Useful questions include: “How is temperature controlled on this route?”, “What happens after a failed delivery?” and “Who decides whether a delayed parcel is suitable to use?” A responsible answer should explain the service's process. This guide cannot certify an unnamed courier or promise that every parcel sent in insulated packaging arrives correctly.

Know which storage rule applies

UK Mounjaro KwikPens are stored at 2–8°C before use and must not freeze. Lilly states that the up-to-30-day allowance at no more than 30°C applies after first use, not as a distribution allowance for pharmacies. Both current KwikPen designs follow this distinction. [1]

This is why a statement such as “it can be warm for a month” is not a sufficient answer about a newly delivered pen. Nor should overseas instructions for a different Mounjaro presentation replace the UK leaflet. Ask the dispenser to assess your actual product and journey. A manufacturer-based decision needs more information than the outside weather on the day you opened the box.

What to check when the parcel arrives

Open it promptly and check the medicine name, strength, dispensing label and quantity against the prescription. Check that the carton and pen are intact, and note the expiry date. Keep the leaflet. If the order differs from what was prescribed, contact the pharmacy before use rather than trying to translate a different strength into your own dose.

Record arrival time and photograph visible damage or a concern with packaging. If temperature monitoring is supplied, keep it and follow the service's instructions for reading it. A cold, cool or melted gel pack is one observation; it is not a calibrated record of the pen's full journey. Put a satisfactory delivery into the correct storage promptly rather than leaving it while you finish other tasks.

If the parcel is late, warm or possibly frozen

Keep the pen unused and contact the dispensing pharmacy. Give the dispatch and receipt times, whether delivery was missed or redirected, where the parcel waited, and what you observed. Ask how to store it while they investigate. Preserve the packaging until they say it is no longer needed.

Ask for a clear outcome: whether the actual pen can be used, what evidence supports that decision and what happens if replacement is required. Refrigerating a pen after a suspected excursion does not erase its history or create a new expiry. Do not put it in a freezer to cool it quickly. If a dose is becoming due, ask your prescriber or pharmacist for medicine-specific advice while the supply issue is resolved.

Set up the next four weeks

Each KwikPen provides four labelled weekly doses. [2] Count prescribed treatments rather than planning around leftover liquid. Put the next ordering date and contact details somewhere accessible, especially if a consultation is required before another supply.

Choose a refrigerator location where the carton is not pressed against a freezing surface and where children cannot access it. Keep household members aware that it is medicine. When the pen enters use, mark the first-use date and follow its leaflet. Delivery, home storage and disposal are separate stages: satisfactory arrival does not remove the need to manage the pen properly afterwards.
